Semi-Permanent Makeup

What are permanent cosmetics?

Also called semi-permanent make up or micropigmentation, permanent cosmetics are a form of cosmetic tattooing. Pharmaceutical grade iron oxide pigments are applied into the skin using a state of the art machine to give the appearance of perfectly applied make up. Results can be as subtle or as dramatic as you wish creating a long lasting enhancement to your natural beauty.

What is the difference between this semi permanent make up and a regular tattoo? Although the actual infusion process is the same, the pigments are not placed as deeply into the skin and therefore do not have the permanency of of a regular tattoo.

How long does it last?

Semi-permanent basically means temporary and implies that at some point the pigment will have completely disappeared and the skin and the skin returned to its pre-tattooed condition. This is not the case. The pigment will remain under the skin indefinately, although may have faded beyond recognition. The skin colour could change due to exposure to the sun for example and the pigment may then become apparent again after the tan has faded. Pigments will also fade over time, of course, as the skin naturally rejuvenates. Depending upon each individual person, the colour can last for up to 5 years. Softer neutral enhancements tend to fade faster and sometimes require a colour booster every 12 months or so to maintain a fresh appearance.

Does the procedure hurt?

Most clients feel no pain at all, but a topical anaesthetic is always applied for the clients comfort.

What happens during treatment?

Prior to your semi permanent  treatment a free of charge consultation is given to asses the clients needs and to perform a patch test. The treatment can then commence 48 hours later.

On the day of your semi permanent make up treatment, the technician will discuss the clients needs as it is essential that the correct colours, shapes and styles are chosen for each individual. The client then fills in a pre-procedure form for consent purposes and to inform the technician of their medical history.

Before the process begins, a topical anaesthetic is applied to reduce the level of discomfort. Then, using conventional cosmetics, the clients look is created visually, so that he/she can approve the design before the permanent pigments are infused into the skin. This ensures the finished result is perfect.

The infusion process usually takes about 30-45 minutes, depending on each individual client. An antibiotic cream is then applied and the client is given a leaflet containing aftercare instructions. A follow up treatment is usually required 6 weeks later to allow final adjustments to be made to the shape and colour. This is included in the initial cost.

Who is semi-permanent make up for?

Permanent cosmetics are one of the fastest growing treatments available today as both demand and public awareness increases. Demand is increasing as we learn the benefits of not having to remove our make up every night then having to reapply it all over again each morning. There are some clients that find permanent cosmetics a necessity, as they have difficulty applying make up due to poor vision. Then there are clients who want a cosmetic solution to loss of eyelashes and brows due to chemotherapy or alopecia. Others just want the convenience of looking perfectly made up from the moment they wake up - all day, every day. Whatever the reason, permanent cosmetics are becoming more and more popular, each and every day.
